A "Small" Buying Opportunity?

The first quarter was an ugly one for diversified, domestic stock funds, with an average decline of more than 10 percent in the first quarter. Yet, the managers of the Heartland Value Plus Fund (HRVIX) managed to eke out a 1.87 percent gain in that period (small-cap value funds dropped by more than 7 percent on average). Heartland Value Plus, a top performer in its style over 1-, 3- and 5-year periods, holds just 40 to 60 under-followed stocks ($3 billion and under market cap) that pay dividends.
