UBS Wealth Management Americas has launched a newly-created wealth planning and investment strategies unit, according to an internal memo sent around UBS today. Tony Roth, who previously ran the brokerage's private wealth management portfolio advisory group, has been named to lead the new division.

Tony will lead 3 groups within the firm: Manager and Fund Due Diligence, Portfolio Advisory Group and Wealth Planning, says the memo, sent via e-mail today to UBS employees by Mike Perry, head of wealth management advice and platforms. Perry said the appointment was made as part of UBS' ongoing efforts to provide financial advisors and clients "with differentiated wealth planning and investment strategy guidance."

Bob McCann, CEO, UBS Wealth Management Americas, confirmed the appointment of Roth, telling Registered Rep.: "Tony Roth is a valued part of the wealth management team. The expertise that Tony and his team bring to financial advisors and clients is a key part of how this business will define itself."

"In addition, he [Roth] will continue to build out our Private Wealth Investment Office capabilities by leveraging the intellectual capital from our Trust and Estate Consultants, Private Planners and Investment Professionals who are devoted to creating differentiated portfolio, asset allocation, and advanced wealth planning strategies for ultra high-net-worth clients," said Perry in the memo, a copy of which was received by Registered Rep.

Perry noted in the memo that Kevin Sullivan would continue to oversee the day-to-day management and fund due diligence functions, reporting directly to Roth. Before coming to UBS, Roth served as co-head in the advisory services division at Bear Stearns & Co. At Bear, he managed a group that provided "customized and scalable solutions" to ultra high-net-worth, family office and institutional clients. Roth was previously a director at Sanford C. Bernstein & Co., where he created and managed the Family Wealth Group, according to the memo from Perry.
