Bloomberg is quoting Morgan Stanley CEO Phil Purcell as saying that fewer than 15 of its 3,700 employees in the World Trade Center are still missing. CBS MarketWatch puts the number at 10.

An East Coast Morgan Stanley broker tells RR that John Schaefer, Morgan Stanley’s individual investor group president and COO, told the firm’s brokers via satellite video feed this morning that the number of the firm’s employees unaccounted for has dropped to 13. The firm has released no names.

A firm spokesperson was not immediately available for comment.

“Clearly, somebody is looking down on us,” says the broker, who witnessed Tuesday’s tragic terrorist attack from New Jersey.

The firm’s systems--everything except e-mail--were uninterrupted. All access to client records and news was unaffected, the broker says.

Meanwhile, in a Friday morning note on Merrill Lynch’s Website, CEO David Komansky and President Stanley O'Neal said that three of the firm’s employees remain unaccounted for and one "has tentatively been identified as deceased."
