Dow Jones Newswires is now reporting that Morgan Stanley denies that it sent a memo to employees stating that Trade Center personnel had survived this morning’s attack.

The news service had earlier the reported on the contents of the alleged memo, which was read to a Dow Jones reporter by a broker. "We're still trying to account for everyone," spokeswoman Diana Quintero told Dow Jones Newswires.

Separately, Morgan Stanley Chairman Phil Purcell issued a statement saying that, while all of the firm’s businesses were functioning, the firm had little further information.

A firm spokesperson was not immediately available for comment.

Bloomberg is reporting that Morgan Stanley has not yet determined how many people it may have lost in the terrorist attack, citing a Morgan Stanley spokesperson. That story is at: http://www.bloomberg.com/news2.cgi?T=scrnews.ht&s=AO56EthUuTW9yZ2Fu.

Press reports also say the investment firm’s senior management was at the company’s midtown Manhattan headquarters when the assaults on the towers occurred.

Purcell’s statement said the firm has 3,500 employees in its retail division working in the World Trade Center complex. He promised investors that their brokers would be in contact.
