Roy M. Adams is a prominent estate planning attorney who teaches other practitioners. Yet anyone can use his “Contemporary Estate Planning: A Definitive Guide to Planning and Practice.”

Adams starts each chapter with the basics, explaining with examples and practice points. All aspects of estate planning are covered.

Brokers will be particularly interested in the section on investment issues in estate planning. “By collaborating with a client's investment managers, clients may pass unlimited amounts of wealth to their heirs free of gift, estate and (in some cases) generation-skipping taxes,” Adams writes. The trick is to beat the IRS' return assumptions.

The book includes an estate planning questionnaire, a will checklist and trust document samples.

“Contemporary Estate Planning,” $225, is available from Cannon Financial Institute at www.cannonfinancial.com or 706/353-3346.
