UBS PaineWebber recently hired several large producers in its Houston complex. The firm hired Ty Solsbery and Mark Elias, Morgan Stanley veterans, as well as Scott Holstead, who had been with Goldman Sachs for two years, and John Scott Pappas, who had worked at Merrill Lynch for two years. All but Holstead started at UBS on Jan. 31, according to the NASD database; Holstead's date of hire is listed as Jan. 21.

Former Oberon Financial Technology CEO Richard Dion is the new sales and marketing director for Boston-based Placemark Investments. Before heading Oberon, Dion spent 15 years at Fidelity Investments, working in sales and development. Placemark was founded in 1999 and focuses on portfolio management for separately managed accounts.

WRP Investments, a broker-dealer based in Youngstown, Ohio, has named David M. Pintaric as its new president, replacing his father, founder William R. Pintaric, who will take a chairman emeritus role. The firm, founded in 1976, has a combined asset base of $1.8 billion. The new president has been with WRP since 1986.

Merrill Lynch promoted Caroline Gundeck to head Women's business development and Keith Henry to head African-American market efforts. Gundeck will be responsible for leading and expanding the market for high-net-worth women investors. Mr. Henry will be responsible for driving strategic business development and market penetration within the African-American community, as well as work closely with Merrill Lynch branch offices to provide training for African American Financial Advisors.

Janet Whitehouse will take over as vice president of human resources and administrative services at Massachusetts-based Sun Life Financial. She will be in charge of public relations, administrative services and human resources for the firm, which boasts assets under management of $220 billion. Whitehouse previously worked for Duncanson & Holt as a senior vice president.
