If you're bankrupt, giving money to a religious institution is not an option, says one court. The U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of New York has interpreted a controversial U.S. bankruptcy reform law that went into effect in October to say creditors come before church. Says one attorney: “For religious Americans…the reform legislation didn't just reword…the code, it also effectively rewrote Exodus and Deuteronomy.”
