Even in the toughest of times, Wall Street finds the cash to pad the pockets of its favorite politicians — or, at least, the politicians favored to win. So far, in the 2007-2008 election cycle, the securities and investment industry has contributed $82 million to political campaigning, according to The Center for Responsive Politics. Of this total, 60 percent went to Democrats. The industry came in third for total contributions, behind “retired,” in second place, and “lawyers/law firms” in first.
