The New York Post reports today that Bernie Madoff is dying of cancer. According to an inmate at the North Carolina prison, Madoff is telling everyone that he doesn’t have long to live. The inmate says that Madoff, 71, is taking “about 20 pills a day” and that he isn’t looking good.

That rumor—that Madoff was terminally ill—has been floating around for many moons. And, you have to admit, it’s the perfect organized crime “dive:” You’ve got your crime “family,” one guy takes a dive for all, and dies in prison, with the secrets. Damn, but Bernie is good. Oh, and apparently he is “making new friends” in the join by hanging out with Native Americans and “homosexuals,” the Post says.

As we reported back in February, the “Madoff Effect” is tarring not only Wall Street in general but financial advisors in particular.
